Fiancee Visa

Marriage between people who live different countries is always a possibility that has increased in occurrence for the past years. Often, there are circumstances that lead to their meeting, falling in love, and considering marriage even when they are worlds apart. However, it is also possible that they want to marry in the country where one of them works and has the higher income. In cases like this, it is possible to obtain a Fiancée Visa so that the marriage can take place in the country where both of them are most likely to live in the future.

Visa Application

A fiancée visa is granted to a verified fiancée or fiancé of the petitioner after they provide proofs of their status and intent to marry. Different countries require different proofs before granting the visa but in the US, wedding announcements, contracts with caterers and venues, birth certificates, proof of termination of previous marriages or proof that both parties are not married, and pictures or tickets of the visit from either end to ensure that the two have met within the past two years from filing the petition are often among the most important proofs.

Fiancée Visa Approval

When both parties have provided enough proof, the Fiancée Visa is approved and the foreign national can then complete the remaining visa requirements. The fiancée visa is then granted after additional proofs and affidavits - such as for support - are presented. Of course, these may not be the only documents that the consulate or embassy may require.

Fiancée Visa Terms

After the issuance of the visa, the foreign national can now visit the country of his or her spouse. However, they should marry within a specific number of days - 90 in the US - after the foreign national's arrival. The foreign national's children (conditions also apply) can also be granted K1 visas and come along him or her.

The foreign national is now allowed to petition for a work and spouse visa.

Getting a Fiancée Visa may be a long and tedious process but providing the right information is the key to approval. One should never apply for tourist visa while considering marriage in the foreign place because this can cause a lot of problems to both parties.
