Anyone wishing to live in the United States as a permanent resident would need to have a Green Card in order to do so. A green card is officially known as a United States Permanent Resident Card. This card serves as an identification document issued by the United States to non-citizens of the country and offers these non-citizens the rights the citizens of the country enjoy. The whole process of getting a permanent resident card and moving to the United States is called immigration.

Interview for a Green Card

Before an individual is made eligible for a Green Card, the individual has to pass a Green Card interview. The interview is more than just a test for the interested immigrant; it helps the INS officer to get to know the individual better. It is also a chance for the INS officer to check whether the request of the individual is viable or whether the individual poses a threat to the safety and security of the United States. The individual will be notified of the date and time of the interview in advance. The interview questions tackle different topics such as the individual's life, work, interests and other extracurricular activities.

Types of Visas for Immigrants

Once the individual passes the interview, he or she will be eligible for a Green Card. However, there are different types of immigration visas the individual may be interested in getting.
One type of immigrant visa is through sponsorship of an immediate relative or family. Another type of immigrant visa is through employment sponsorship. A special immigrant's visa is also another type of immigrant visa.

Eligibility for Green Card

Once the individual is approved for a permanent resident card, he or she will be offered a USA Visa. This gives the individual the right for permanent residency in the United States of America. With this grant come many advantages for the immigrant. The immigrant can enjoy the rights the citizens of the country enjoy. The immigrant can live in the United States for as long as he or she wants and can bring their immediate family members with them. A Green Card also offers many opportunities for the immigrant and one of them being the opportunity for employment. With a permanent resident card, the immigrant can choose to work in the United States and earn the same wages as citizens do without any racial biases.
